Social card for Howard, new principal at Zellars

Little Elm ISD is pleased to announce Howard Higginbotham as the new principal of Herschel Zellars Early Childhood Learning Center. Higginbotham was previously the assistant principal, having served two PreK campuses in Denton ISD: Ann Windle and, most recently, Gonzalez Schools for Young Children. He specializes in Special Education, coordination of 504 plans, multi-tiered systems of support, attendance, and campus safety procedures.

Higginbotham has been with Denton ISD since 2013 and has served in a variety of roles, including lead counselor and campus administrator at the elementary and middle school levels. He has also been a school counselor, PE and health teacher at Ft. Worth ISD, and a math teacher at Lewisville ISD. Higginbotham began his public education career in Ohio, starting a new alternative school for students in grades 7-12. He has a total of 24 years of experience in public education.

During Monday’s board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the administration’s recommendation to hire Higginbotham. Superintendent Mike Lamb praised Higginbotham's experience leading a PreK center, stating, “Mr. Higginbotham has exceptional interpersonal communication skills that will be extremely valuable with his staff, students and parents. He is student-focused on providing the best environment for learning. We are excited to welcome him to the Lobo FamiLE,” said Lamb.

Higginbotham replaces Doug Sevier, who announced his retirement in May.
